Recently the new artist Gotye released the single "Somebody That I Used to Know," and it's been ripping up the charts and all over the radio.  And we know, it's not electro, but just keep reading.  Like the majority of big pop songs, big remixes followed soon after.  So here they are, the original song and two new remixes, one by Tiesto, who has been spitting out huge house bangers recently, and one by TheFatRat, whose remix of "Levels" brought much attention to the up and coming duo.

Upcoming Webster Hall

One of the original mainstream nightclubs in NYC, Webster Hall continues to dish out amazing concert after amazing concert, and the upcoming schedule is no different.  In February alone, names such as Porter Robinson, Skrillex, Sebastian Ingrosso, Nero, Tiesto (fuck trance), Joachim Garraud, and FareOh.  Seeing as we are already at the 9th of February, this is a packed month.  I would definitely do my best to go at least to one of these upcoming acts.

SWEET RELEASE

The past two days have been massive for new releases.  Two tracks we previewed earlier finally dropped, the more hyped one sophocles already shared with all of you, White Noise/Red Meat.  


But not long ago we showed you the video teaser for the new Tiesto & Hardwell track.  And although Dada has seemed to get all the hype recently, Zero 76 released yesterday.  


As you all know (if you've read anything about this blog), we do not post trance.  Therefore you would never expect to see Tiesto here.  But, as much as I hate to admit it, the almost purely trance DJ has insane skill.  And when put into house and electro with collaborations, he always dishes out the best shit, and this is no exception.

Spotlight: Diplo

Thomas Pentz (known to us by the name Diplo) has become a household name for electro fans, famous for his ability to merge genres seamlessly.  Diplo spent his childhood moving from one southern state to the next, picking up on musical influence along the way.  After first getting mainstream acclaim with DJ Low Budget and their group "Hollertronix" (mixtape ranked number 3 on New York Times best albums of 2003), Diplo moved on to collaborate with huge names such as M.I.A., Santigold, Gucci Mane, Tiesto, Laidback Luke, and La Roux.  


Currently Diplo manages his own record company, Mad Decent, which has released artists such as Rusko, Gucci Mane, Santigold, and many more, as well as being half of the headlining group Major Lazer, alongside Switch. 


Diplo continues to produce chart crashing hits, while staying true to his influences.  His music has been described as "homeless" and "not fitting anywhere"by M.I.A., and I agree with her completely.  Try and classify Diplo as one genre and see what happens.  It's near impossible.  And that's fucking awesome.
