TAKE ONE REVIEW

I know that this seems a bit late to be announcing the Swedish House Mafia's documentary, but I wanted to get a chance to see it first before I hyped it up.  But this movie deserves all the hype it can get.

For those of you who don't know Take One is the new documentary on the swedish house mafia, following their career as a group.  Not to give anything away, but the movie follows the lives of the individual artists in the group (Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Axwell) and shows everything from their meal time rituals to production of tracks.

I HIGHLY recommend this movie to anybody that wants to learn more about the working pieces of electronic music.
No. Fuck that. I recommend this movie to anybody that's ever wanted to rave to "One".  So every single one of you.

A Little of This, a Little of That

Here at NOTA, we tend to bring you fresh shit most people haven't heard, that's kind of the point. In this post we are going on a little bit of a variant, providing big (sometimes mainstream) names, with a little remixing... So that means your friend that likes rap won't NECESSARILY give you looks in the car, your pop-loving girlfriend might tolerate sharing your iPod, your indie-rock friend will still feel think you're "indie," and that guy who loves Cudi can still chill. Some old, some new.  Moving on...

Pass Out (Afrojack Remix)- Tinie Tempah

C'mon (Catch Em By Surprise)- Tiesto vs. Diplo feat. Busta Rhymes

Live It Up- Deepside Deejays

S&M (Sidney Samson Club Mix)- Rihanna

Bittersweet Kickin (David Puentez Bootleg Mix)- Matt Myer vs. The Verve

Comme Des Enfants (Le Matos Andy Carmichael Remix)- Coeur De Pirate

The Night is Young (Edwin van Cleef Remix)- Nelly Furtado

Dancing With The DJ (Jesse Marco Remix)- The Knocks
nd of course.. that Britney dub
Hold It Against Me- Britney Spears
now these are a little all over, but have a taste.

Bananas and Champagne

So this friday is a HUGE concert at Pacha NYC, Dada Life.  One of my favorite groups for both remixes and original production, the Swedish based duo have released nothing but hits recently, and personally I couldn't be more excited.  As an added bonus, Bart B More, another huge artist, is opening that night.

Dada Life has officially leaked their newest upcoming song, White noise / Red Meat, and they have been playing it in their live sets since new years eve.  Check out the teaser video below.  DO. NOT. MISS. THIS.

AND even more so, the party starts at 1 PM.  How could this be, you might be wondering?  Well Pacha is screening the new documentary "The Electro Wars."  The movie is about the influence blogs and the internet have had on the current electro scene (I KNOW), and should definitely be checked out.

Check the Electro Wars HERE.

Here is the trailer:

...And one nasty teaser

Following my last post on Dirty Dutch House music, I wanted to give you guys a quick preview of an upcoming tune, with major dutch influence.  It hasn't been released yet, so here is all we have so far.  The track is called Solar, and it's by a somewhat new producer named Nicky Romero off of Spinnin' Records, arguably one of the biggest house record labels out there.

It has been said to release on March 1st on Beatport, so DO NOT miss it.

here is the video teaser and download.

enjoy.

(BY THE WAY: 1.3.11, the date in the video is March 1st, not January 3rd.  Holden made this mistake before.)

Disgusting... Nasty... Straight Dirty Dutch

As you all probably know electronic music has more sub genres then almost any other kind of music (except metal maybe).  And we love to talk about every single one of them on this blog...EXCEPT TRANCE.  The big genre for me right now is Dirty Dutch House.  Dirty Dutch is characterized by huge and pitchy synth, almost no actual bassline, a shit ton of kick drum, and massive builds and drops.  As you could have guess it originated from dutch producers, such as Chuckie, Afrojack, and Sidney Samson.  But even Dirty Dutch has its own individual sub-sections.  Between dirty dutch producers, there are always similarities in their music, but the differences are what make it amazing.  For instance, Afrojack has begun to merge mainstream sounds with classic dirty dutch synths, while Oliver Twizt has almost no mainstream sound and isn't about the drops, but creates disgustingly intricate synth sounds.

Enough talk, here's some dirty dutch to make you scream
don't. hesitate.

Afrojack/Gartner Previews

I've recently stumbled across a new Afrojack track that has yet to have been named. For the time being it's going under the title "Untitled Amazingness" (clever, right).
Heres the link for the download, enjoy:

I've also found an unreleased vocal mix from one of my favorites, Wolfgang Gartner. This track is a little different from the usual Gartner, but it still supplies a powerful punch.

New Avicii: UPDATED

Since we here still can't figure out what the Avicii ID track is, here is an old track by the Swedish DJ to hold you over. (By the way, if you know, please tell me).

Street Dancer (Original Mix)- Avicii

When we figure it out, we'll let you know.

UPDATE: The ID preview is a track called Somacho (still unreleased though), and has been recently paired with Penguin, an already released track. Shout out to Andy Lack for telling me about it, what a bro.
Penguin- Avicii

Spotlight: Diplo

Thomas Pentz (known to us by the name Diplo) has become a household name for electro fans, famous for his ability to merge genres seamlessly.  Diplo spent his childhood moving from one southern state to the next, picking up on musical influence along the way.  After first getting mainstream acclaim with DJ Low Budget and their group "Hollertronix" (mixtape ranked number 3 on New York Times best albums of 2003), Diplo moved on to collaborate with huge names such as M.I.A., Santigold, Gucci Mane, Tiesto, Laidback Luke, and La Roux.

Currently Diplo manages his own record company, Mad Decent, which has released artists such as Rusko, Gucci Mane, Santigold, and many more, as well as being half of the headlining group Major Lazer, alongside Switch.

Diplo continues to produce chart crashing hits, while staying true to his influences.  His music has been described as "homeless" and "not fitting anywhere"by M.I.A., and I agree with her completely.  Try and classify Diplo as one genre and see what happens.  It's near impossible.  And that's fucking awesome.

Of course, here are some tunes to feed your new found Diplo hunger

A++ Make You Pop - Diplo and Don Diablo

A++ C'Mon - Tiesto vs. Diplo

Hey - Laidback Luke and Diplo

How I Like It - Afrojack and Diplo

A+ Going Through Hell (Diplo Remix) - The Streets (DUBSTEP)

P.S. - sophocles happens to be in love with diplo, so any questions should definitely be directed to her

Spotlight: Rusko

Chris Mercer (aka Rusko) is one of the many prolific dubstep producers coming out of the UK. After earning a degree in music production from Leeds College in England, Rusko made his production debut in 2006 on Dub Police with the song SNES Dub. By 2007 he released Babylon, Vol. 1 with Sub Soldiers. Steeringaway from the darker side of Dubstep, Rusko brought an upbeat sound to the scene that appealed to many outside the community. It has been documented by numerous sources that this guy also really knows how to party. Here are some tunes. Try not to blow your bass out people.

Hot Shit

Recently, I have been finding a lot of amazing tracks that I have absolutely never heard of. I have put together a list of a few tracks that you have probably never heard, but might just burn a hole in your ear drums. They are completely random and connected in no way, but what the hell, fuck organization.
Enjoy!

With You Friends (Long Drive)-Skrillex (not typical Skrillex, but still good)

Incase You Missed the Hype...

The tracks below have been HUGE in the past weeks. So, Incase you missed them, here they are (and some extra M.I.A):

Hot Mess (Duck Sauce Remix)- Chromeo

Internet Connection (Flux Pavilion Remix)- M.I.A

Internet Connection (Huoratron Rum Aid Remix)- M.I.A

Kind of unrelated, but I like M.I.A, so here's some more.

Massive Electro Smörgåsbord

Hope your afternoon hasn't consisted of studying and staring at work like mine has, but if it has, here are some tracks to make your day suck less.

In accordance with worshipping the Bloody Beetroots, I'll start with Dimmakmmunication. Dim Mak has produced some of the best from the start, and the Bloody Beetroots are clearly no exception.

Dimmakmmunication- The Bloody Beetroots

To satisfy your dirty dutch house craving that I'm sure you have from the taste you got from the earlier posts, we have an absolute BANGER from the Stafford Brothers (Australia), remixed by Sidney Samson.

Wasted (Sidney Samson Remix)- Stafford Brothers

Skrillex is massive right now- see below.

Do Da Oliphant- Skrillex

Another female vocalist is Melisa Young, also known as Kid Sister. She's featured with Carte Blanche (also huge) and as a solo artist.

Do! Do! Do! (Laidback Luke Remix)- Carte Blanche ft. Kid Sister

Right Hand Hi (Caspa Remix)- Kid Sister

Flux/Skrillex bitch..

If you're into dubstep then you've definitely heard of Flux Pavilion.
Here are a few of my favorite Flux Pavilion songs,
oh and who doesn't love some Skrillex

Pure Gold

If you have seen Swedish House Mafia preform any time recently, then you have definitely heard this banger. Straight off of the prestigious Size Records, Thomas Gold has delivered "AGORa". If your wondering why SHM has had this in their setlist so often it is simply because this track is STRAIGHT FIRE!

check it out:

Dub Power!

UK dubstep supergroup Nero have recently released a track with vocals to give you the shivers and a bassline to make your heart stop. Without further ado, I present:

Cheers,

Dragon Breathe Fire?

She's easily my favorite female voice in electro now, with Ellie Goulding in as a close second.  Dragonette, more specifically Martina, the lead singer, has the perfect, pitchy, voice for electro.  She has been featured on some of my favorite tracks recently, one of them I showed you guys, the dubstep remix of Volcano.  (Get it Here).  Working with some of the biggest acts in electronic music, such as Kaskade, Dragonette has officially made a name for themselves.

Don't hesitate.

Animale - Don Diablo ft. Dragonette

A++ Hello (Dada Life Remix) - Martin Solveig ft Dragonette (HOUSE/ELECTRO VERSION)

A Hello (Sidney Samson Remix) - Martin Solveig ft Dragonette (DIRTY DUTCH VERSION)

A+ Fire in Your New Shoes - Kaskade ft. Martina of Dragonette

A  Fire in Your New Shoes (Innerpartysytem Remix) - Kaskade ft. Martina of Dragonette

That ill Mafia

Don Corleone can kiss their swedish ass.  The Swedish House Mafia, the only one that matters to me, has dropped huge tracks recently, with arguably last years biggest track, One.
And they've done it again, with their newest record, Champion.

The vocal sample is an ill sound that makes the song in my opinion.  It makes that classic SHM build so much better

enough talking, just download. no questions asked.

Champion - Swedish House Mafia ft. Jon [Download removed by request]

Spotlight: Porter Robinson

Unlikely doesn’t even begin to describe Porter Robinson’s rapid ascent to the forefront of the world of dance music. Hailing from North Carolina, 18-year-old Porter Robinson had never set foot in a club when his smash hit “Say My Name” shot to number one on Beatport’s Electro-House chart, making people do just that on dance floors and DJ booths across the globe. Complex yet catchy, and classic yet cutting edge, Porter Robinson’s instantly recognizable sound has earned him the raving support of legendary producers such as Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk, David Guetta, The Crystal Method and Armand Van Helden, and landed him shows across the globe – all before he has even had the chance to finish high school.
Here are some tracks to show you what he's all about:

Hope you enjoy,
